Tamara Yazbek is a Mexican filmmaker who just completed her Masters degree in Visual Anthropology at Goldsmiths University of London. Her final thesis project was focused on the representation of women in Latin American societies and the normalization of violence towards the female gender.
She has a BA in film and TV at London College of Communication, which she completed with a dissertation about the audience’s phenomenological experience of space within film.
Her Portrayal of “Camila” in Michel Franco’s film ‘Despues de Lucia’ earned her a nomination as best supporting actress in ‘Diosas de Oro’ in Mexico City. The film won ‘Un Certain Regard’ in Cannes film festival. She has worked in many film festivals including: Raindance, Ambulante and London Feminist Film Festival. Since graduating from her BA she has produced three short films and worked as a production assistant in Pulse films. Most recently she produced, directed and shot her first short documentary “Refugio”, a portrait of a woman that has survived and endured the violence and repression that come with being female in Latin America.
